(Christmas Edition)One of my favourite things about the holiday season is the deliciousness that is Bath and Body Works Candles. I mean, all year round they have delightful candles, but around this time of year is when I get particularly excited and go a little candle crazy.

Bath and Body Works is one of the very few stores that I can drag my boyfriend into that he he doesn't complain about within 2 minutes of arriving. It's become a little tradition over the last few years that when they put out their holiday candles, we spend the time to sniff out our favs.

Which made the cut this year? Check out the links for a description of each amazing scent!

Have you spotted the theme? I love the sweet treat holiday scents! But if I had to choose my favourite of the bunch, I think I would have to go with the Mint Chocolate. So delicious!

Have you sniffed out the holiday Bath and Body Works range? Tell me, what's your fav? I'm in the market to pick up a few more.

Aside from the tree, the food, the family and the all around joy of Christmas, like any other girl, I love to celebrate the season on my nails! This is my first Christmas inspired nail, and I suspect it will not be my last.

This simple nail look is comprised of two coats of Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant from the "Glosstini" line in the colour 515 Sangria. I topped it off with one of my favourite glitter top coats (which I've used in many other posts) is called "Only Gold for Me" by Sephora by OPI.

This look is office friendly yet still very fun and festive. It is hard to capture on camera, but the glitter is quite pretty and fetching.

Tell me, what holiday nail looks do you plan to rock this season?

Did someone say mint AND sparkles? I'm loving this nail combo lately! It's "Frosty Mint" (111) by Ceramic Glaze and "Only Gold for Me" top coat from Sephora by OPI just on my ring fingers. Heck, I need to dress up that finger with some kind of bling until I get the real thing. ;)

I have only seen Ceramic Glaze in at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. I believe it is a newer brand. Have anyone outside of Canada seen it before?
They are not very easily found in North America, but they seem to be huge in Asia. So when Garnier came out with their new Skin Renew Dark Spot Treatment Mask I was all over it!

I got mine at Shoppers Drug Mart. The price was around $20.00 for a box of six or $3.99 individually. I didn't want to splurge on the whole box until I tried them out, so I just picked up two individual masks.

The Claims

This product is said to help with dark spots (hence the name), dullness and uneven skin tone. It is supposed to be loaded with vitamin C and keep your skin intensely hydrated for 24 hours.

My Experience.

The masks themselves are VERY saturated with product- which is amazing. There is actually supposed to be half a bottle worth of product in each mask! I applied it on freshly cleansed skin and kept it on for about 15-20 minutes (the package suggests 10). After, the mask is not completely dry, but you can definately tell lots has been absorbed into the skin. I then simply massaged the remaining product into my skin. I even used the remainder on the sheet and rubbed it on the top of my hands!

My Results

My skin was VERY moisturized, plump and smooth afterwards. I've tried using the masks both at night before bed and in the morning before makeup. I like both ways, but I found I loved the way my makeup applied after using the mask. My skin felt and looked very plump and moisturized.

Final Verdict

I would definitely repurchase these masks again! Although, I do find them a wee bit pricey. The directions suggest using up to 3 times a week, but I think that might be a little too expensive. I think I will incorporate this into a once-a-week (maybe Sundays) beauty night.

Have you tried Garnier's new sheet masks? What about any other brands of sheet masks?

Lots of love,

It's Friday, I had a half day at the office and so of course I had the urge to swing by the drug store. I went to pick up the new Garnier Dark Spot Masks (Which I got- review coming soon!), but I always find myself wandering to the nail isle.

I was in the mood for some sparkle and this Revlon Nail Art Expressionist duo in 350 "Ulterior Motif" caught my eye (plus it was on sale!). As summer is coming to an end, I find myself leaning towards darker shades as summer slowly fades away (sigh).

The base is a deep iridescent grey, not quite black, and the sparkles are a mixture of small and chunky pink sparkles. I had original planned on only using the sparkles for an accent nail, but I went sparkle craaazay and did them all.

Have you tried these polishes? I'm thinking of picking up a couple more shades!

After trying so many products over the years and spending so much money, I've come to join the camp of, "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is."

Now, I have struggled with my skin from my late teens up until now in my mid twenties. In my early twenties I suffered from really bad cystic acne. I was prescribed accutane and thought I was on the road to beautiful skin. After Accutane my skin was beautiful, smooth and glowing. I was amazed! Then, about 1 year after I completed my treatment and my acne came back! Back to the doctor I went and was put on a second round of Accutane. My skin was perfect again, for about a year... and back it came.

Fast forward a few years and I still struggle with acne. Albeit, I rarely have the huge, painful cysts I once had, I have many white heads, black heads, clogged pores and just lumpy bumpy skin all over my face. I have found that this type of acne has been so much harder to treat and it's harder to cover with makeup because the skin's texture is so bumpy. I've tried dozens of products and I was fed up.

Enter Paula's Choice.

I recently stumbled across the Paula's Choice after doing some research about skin care, particularly BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid), as I learned it's good at unclogging pores and dealing with white heads and black heads. But I still hesitant order.

Then I stumbled across a video from on of my all time favourite YouTube Beauty gurus, Wayne Goss (AKA gossmakeupartist on YouTube). I have always really trusted his opinions on products and skin care. He was raving about Paula's Choice and particularly a new product called Resist BHA 9 and how amazing it was for unclogging pores and dealing with breakouts and imperfections.

I ended up ordering Resist BHA 9, Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant and Skin Recover Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum with Retinol (which I use under my eyes).

After a couple of days I say immediate improvements in bumps and within about a week- noticable results. Even my boyfriend said something- and that says a lot!!

My skin care routine is not 100 times more simple, with less products, yet 100 times more effective!

Today I placed my second order with Paula's Choice and I am confident that it won't be my last!!

Have you tried any of Paula's Choice products? If so, what were they and what were your results? I'd love to hear!!

Lots of love,

Just a quick post to show you my latest DIY venture: a knotted statement necklace. The turquoise fabric is actually from an old t-shirt and the chain is extra I had laying around from another project.

I love the way it came out and I can't wait to experiment with more colours, sizes and chains.

Lots of love,

I am super excited because tomorrow I have a job interview for a position in my field. I have been job hunting for a few months now so I'm really happy. When on an interview or in a professional setting, it's important to keep your nails clean and professional looking. Not to long, no chips and maybe skip the crazy neon greens.

For my interview I chose a soft pale pink with a sheer white topcoat over top. The colours I chose are called "Blush Rose" from Joe Fresh (This may only be available in Canada) and on top is "Couture" by Seche Vite.

I started by moisturizing my cuticles, pushing them back and filing my nails to the shape I like. I prefer a rounded square shape

Next, I applied two coats of Blush Rose, letting each coat dry in between.

I then finished off with the Seche Vite top coat and let my nails dry completely before doing anything with my hands. The last thing you want in an interview in smudged or chipped polish :/

What do you guys think? Are these nails interview appropriate?

Lots of love,
I have girlfriends that will chop off their hair to their shoulders at Christmas and by Easter their hair seems to be magically at their belly button! An exaggeration? Yes- but not too far off base. I am one of the unlucky ones whose hair grows at a snails pace- but for the first time in a long time my hair seems somewhat longish, with the longest bits just at about nipple length. Am I finally part of this long-hair club that I've wanted in for years? YES! But the road here has been long and I've picked up a few tips and tricks a long the way. Here are just a few.

Skip the heat
I know this can be scary. There has been points in my life that I have been a slave to heat tools. Not a day would go by without passing a straightener through my hair... and boy did it show! My hair was dry and the ends were split and snarly. Dry, damaged ends will snap and break and take away any length you have achieved. I promise, the longer you go without heat and embrace your natural hair texture, the healthier your hair will look and the easier ditching the heat will be. Too many of us get caught in the viscous cycle wear our hair is so damaged, only heat styling will make it look good. So STOP NOW!

Rock your natural colour
I am a natural brunette but during university I took the leap and became a blonde- and I loved it! It brightened up my face and I got so many compliments. I kept the blonde for about four years. Although I had noticed by hair was growing much slower than usual and it wasn't shiny or healthy looking. To give my hair (and my bank account) a break I went back to my natural brown this past Christmas and my hair has been so much healthier since and has grown faster in the last five months than it has in a long time. Even my friends have noticed!

Get Dirty
Let you hair's natural oils do what they were meant to do- nourish and condition your hair. Stop washing your hair daily and stripping the natural oils. Start slow by washing every other day, then every third. Experiment with dry shampoos and cute hair styles. Your hair may seem greasy at first, but this will eventually diminish.

Condition, condition, condition
Find a deep conditioner that you love. Use it 1-2 times a week (more or less depending on your hair). The more moisturized your hair is, the less likely it will break, causing you to lose length.

Say 'so long' to sulfates
Shampoos with harsh chemicals and detergents strip your hair of moisture. They may feel luxurious and lather well in your hair, but it is doing much more harm than good. Use a sulfate free, and preferable natural shampoo. These are now widely available in drugstores. There is no excuse.

Find balance from within
Drink water, eat your veggies and get lots of protein. Not only will your hair thank you, so will your skin, nails and waist line!

These are just a few of my top tips. What are some of your favourite ways to take care of your locks?
Four perfect coral shades for spring and summerWhen I think of spring and summer lips one word comes to my mind: CORAL. I absolutely love shades of coral. It is a very wearable colour and compliments a wide variety of skin tones. Here is a list of some of my coral lipsticks that I have found myself reach for.

"Ravishing" by MAC
This is such a beautiful lip colour, perfect for any spring and summer look. It is a bright coral,so I like to wear it with a very neutral eye and soft cheeks. The finish is a creamsheen, so it is very moisturizing and won't give a gnarly dry lip look (I hate that!)

"Peach Parfait" #401 by L'Oreal Colour Riche
This colour is on the peachier side of the coral family (hence the name) and I love it. Of the four shades shown, this is the colour I wear most often. It is very wearable and flattering. In fact, it's so wearable I often feel ok applying it without a mirror. **Shock and horror!!* The L'Oreal Colour Riche line is so moisturizing and smooth, applying more like a lip balm than a lipstick. In. Love.

"Compelling Coral" #402 by L'Oreal Colour Riche
Also from the L'Oreal Colour Riche family, this is the darkest shade of the bunch. I like wearing this shade in the evening for a more dramatic punch while still staying springy. It is also so moisturizing!

"Blushing Coral" by Clinique
I have had this lipstick in my collection for years! It is so wearable and sheer. It is a barely-there kind of shade with a glossy and slightly shimmery finish. A great choice to throw in your purse or beach bag for the day. And like the L'Oreal shades, it is also very moisturizing!
What are some of your fav summer colours? I'm in the market for a new one! Comment below!
As you may have already noticed from reading my previous posts, I love simple, natural beauty solutions. If a product has ingredients I can pronounce and recognize and comes from good old mother nature, I tend to gravitate towards it. Better yet... I love being my own chemist! Researching and experimenting new ingredients I can use on my skin and hair that I already have in my kitchen. This leads me to my two favourite ingredients for nearly every skin problems you make be having.

Drum rrrooolll please......

HONEY AND LEMON JUICE. Yep... that's it. Sorry if that was rather anti climactic and sounds more like a nice cup of tea than a facial treatment, but trust me, they work wonders on the skin AND are quite budget friendly!

It's best to get raw and organic honey, as this type of honey packs the most punch. Albeit, a tad more expensive then the honey in the plastic bear, the extra pennies are worth it. It is anti microbial and super hydrating- great for dabbing on pesky pimples. Honey has actually been used for century for the skin because of it's amazing healing properties.

As for the lemon juice, straight from the lemon is best. (Insert cheesey "when life gives you lemons" joke here...). Although, admittedly, when I don't have a lemon lying around I'll reach for the bottled one. Lemon juice is a powerful natural chemical exfolient. It contains citric acid that helps to remove the dull and dry outer layer of skin, revealing fresh, new and brighter skin underneath. It also does wonders to reduce dark spots left over from old pimples (I swear these marks are worse than the actual zit itself!) #FirstWorldProblems?

How I use my kitchen miracles

Option 1: Honey and lemon mask

Mix 2/3 part honey and 1/3 part lemon juice (you can play around with these proportions) and apply the mixture to my freshly cleansed skin. For an extra skin treat, I sometimes steam my face prior to applying to allow it's sweet goodness to penetrate the skin even better

Option 2: Plain honey mask

Repeat option one minus the lemon

Option 3: Lemon toner

After cleansing my skin at night I will sometimes use lemon juice as a skin toner. I use plain lemon juice, but if you have sensitive skin, it may be a wise idea to dilute it in some water, as it can sting. Do not wash it off and wake up to brighter skin the next morning.

So before you reach for that super expensive, chemical ridden and harsh skin product, take a short stroll into your kitchen. You'll be happy you did. :)

Have you tried either of these ingredients in any of your beauty routines? I would love to here how!

Lots of love,

Happy Saturday, ladies (with an emphasis on the happy)!

If you're anything like me, every now and then you seem to get into a 'funk' that you just can't get out of. They can last anywhere from a couple of hours to months. For me these funks can include having to drag myself out of bed, lack of motivation to do thing that need to get done and no feeling like getting out or seeing friends. We've all been there, some worse than others, but we can all relate!

Before I get into some ways I've discovered dealing with these feelings, let me give you a quick snapshot of my life. From September to the end of December I was working at a job that was sucking the life out of me. Now don't get me wrong- I loved the work and my coworkers, but the commute and the hours were killing me. Thus, in December when my contract came up, I decided I would part ways. Fast forward 2 months and I have yet to start a new job. I get anxious at the thought of applying to positions, I am lacking motivation to seek out new opportunities and worse yet, my bank account is dwindling because of it. Now don't get me wrong, I am a very positive person by nature, but for some reason I have found myself in this funk.

Lucky for me I have slowly been discovering various ways to deal with my minor depression/anxiety and I feel like I am on my way out and hopefully some of my tips will help anyone finding themselves in the same boat as me. Let's get to it!

1. Get moving

It doesn't matter if you hit up the gym, go for a walk outside, or make a date with Jillian Michaels and your DVD player, the bottom line is to get moving. One of my favourite resources is FREE online workout videos via YouTube and my go-to channel is Tone it Up. These ladies know what they're talking about and they are so beautiful. I'm also loving a new app I've discovered called "Moves". It uses your phone's GPS technology to track the distance you have walked. I am so obsessed with this! I even try and beat my distance each time. I've been walking everywhere!

Exercise can have amazing benefits to not only the body, but also the mind. When you exercise your body releases natural endorphins which are basically feel-good chemicals. If you start by moving your body just a little bit every day you will start feeling a huge difference in your mood and outlook every day.

2. Get outside

Just the act of being outside can brighten your mood. Even though it's still snowy and cold here in Canada, getting outside and breathing in the cool fresh air really makes a difference. Try getting outside for AT LEAST 15 minutes each day. Leave the computer screen at home and your phone tucked away in your pocket and try to truly enjoy being outside.

3. Write down your goals

This is one of the best motivational tips I have come across. By writing out your goals each and every day you will be constantly reminded of them. By visually seeing them written down they become even more real. Also try reciting them out loud and really visualize them coming true. I am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking and when you can visualize your dreams, you will see them come true before your eyes.

In addition to this, I have recently come across the tip of writing your goals out in the present, as if they are already true. So instead of writing down, "I will lose 10 pounds by summer" write, for example, "I weigh 115 on July 1, 2013." By writing down your goals in the present, it causes your mind to shift the way it's currently working and start making decisions your 115 pound self would make. It's like magic!

4. Try something completely new

By getting out of your current routine and comfort zone, you will be amazed at what you might find. Try taking a community art class, join a recreational sports team or even something as simple as making a coffee date with a friend you haven't seen in months. By shaking up your routine a bit and putting yourself out there you could open doors to possibilities that you never even knew existed.

5. Nourish your mind and body

How you fule your body, believe it or not, has a direct correlation to how you feel emotionally. Have you even craved a huge slice of doughy, cheesy pepperoni pizza and your so excited to gobble it up, only to find tha afterwards you feel slugish, tired and all you feel like doing is watching Netflix for the rest of the day? I'm sure we've all been there!

Instead, feel your body the foods you know it naturally craves like colourful fruits and vegetables and lean protein. By feeding your body natural, whole food after a week or so you will notice you have more energy to conquer the day.

6. Seek out inspiration
Finally, if you find that you are lacking inspiration or motivation, go out and find it! There are a million self-help books, CDs, Pod casts and even blogs that focus on self-development and self discovery. Lately I have been trying to read/listen just a little bit each day from a book that motivates me. Some of my favourites include:

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne (Basically the user's guide to positive thinking!)
The Secret (Film) (Includes great interviews and stories and I think it's available on NetFlix!)
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra
Awakening the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins (This is also available in an audio version, which I highly suggest- his voice alone "awakens" you lol)

I hope you will find some of these tips helpful and useful in your own life. Even if you don't find yourself in a 'funk' per say, following some of these tips will allow you to be even happier each and every day.

What are some things you do when your feeling down? Let me know!

Lots of love,
I'm ready to to trade in my winter boots for sun dresses, shorts and cute strappy sandals. Unfortunately we still have a couple of months before the springtime shines it's lovely light upon us, but that doesn't mean we can't bring the springtime early- on our nails.

The fall and winter are all about the deep, dark and rich tones (which I love), but around this time of year, when I'm starting to really feel the winter blues, I like to lighten things up on my nails. Today I opted for Essie's Figi. It is a very light and opaque pink shade and is perfect for Easter and almost reminds me of a delicious Cadbury mini egg (YUM!!). It may not be everyone's taste because it can almost appear white-ish if two or three coats are applied.

Before I apply any nail polish I like to moisturize my skin and cuticles. I often use olive oil, but today I opted for OPI's Avoplex moisturizer, which I received in an OPI set a couple Christmases ago. After applying two coats of Figi I finished it off with a clear top coat to give it extra shine and lasting protection from chipping.

What's your favourite nail colour to help welcome spring? Comment below!
Lots of love,
Over the past year or so I have been on a constant hunt for more
natural
products. This goes for everything. From the food I eat to the lotions
and potions I slather on my face. I have become more and more cognizant
of the long-term harm and harshness a myriad of of ingredients can
cause. This is especially true with troubled skin. If you are constantly
slathering on products with a laundry list of impossible to pronounce
ingredients, it's often very difficult to determine the culprit if the
product causes irritation. So, that being said, my newest motto is:
simplicity is key.

Last week I was in my local health food store on the hunt for some new beauty products and I came across NOW Solutions European Clay Powder.
It is a dry clay powder made of 100% montmorillonite clay, that can be
mixed with water (or an liquid base of your choice) to make a facial
clay mask. I am a huge fan of DIY facial treatments, so naturally, this
product was right up my alley. And the best part... it was only $6.49!

After
using this product for the last week or so, I have to say, it is
definitely a new holy grail product that I will continue to use forever.
I have used it a few different ways and I am very impressed.

Mixed with water
This
is the simplest way to use the product. Simply mix with water to create
a clay mask and apply to the face. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and
rinse off with water. The mask is excellent at pulling out impurities to
the surface of the skin and absorbing excess oil without over drying.

Mixed with water and jojoba oil
If
your skin is a little bit on the drier side, it is suggested that you
add a few drops of your favourite oil. For this I used jojoba oil and it
worked great.

As a spot treatment
This is one
of my favourite way to use this product. I take a very small amount of
powder and mix it with a little water to make a thicker consistency and
use it as a spot treatment on acne spots. I sleep with the treatment on
and rinse off in the morning and the spot is majorly reduced. I love it!

I
am still experimenting with this product and researching different
combinations for DIY treatments. I have read some reviews suggesting
using green tea instead of water and I think this is what I will try
next.

Tell me, what are some of your natural beauty products. I love learning about new things to try!

Lots of love,
This is for two simple reasons: it's dead simple and crazy inexpensive! The only difficult part to this project is deciding on what to actually put on your mug!

What you need:

White mug or plate (I purchased mine at the dollar store for $1.25 each!)

permanent markers, any colours you like

Oven

Creativity

What to do:

1. First, it's important to clean your mug. Make sure it is free from dust, fingerprints and naughty little specks. Wash with your favourite dish detergent and make sure it is bone dry before you move on to the next step.

2. Get creative! Decide on how you would like to design your mug. Look up some of your favourite quotes, designs, patterns... anything. One cute idea that would be great for your special valentine is to make a mug or a plate that says everything you love about them. That way every morning with their cup of coffee and tea, they will be reminded of these little things.

One piece of advice for this step is to practice first. Write or draw out what you plan on putting on your item. Although (lucky for me) if you do make a mistake, the marker will easily wipe away with some nail polish remover.

For my mug I wanted to write something that would inspire me every morning. I chose one of my favourite Dr. Seuss quotes:

"Today you are you,
that is truer than true.
There is no one alive
who is youer than you."

Then, on the other side I Googled an image of the iconic Dr. Seuss hat and I drew it on the other side of the mug, and I have to say, I impressed myself lol.

3. Bake it. Place your mug onto a cookie sheet and place it in the oven at 350 degrees and set the timer for 30 minutes.

The only thing I did notice after I baked my mug was that the red sharpie colour I had used seemed to fade a little bit and came out looking more orange. This didn't bother me too much, but if this would be a concern to you, you might want to stick with the darker colours.

Let me know if you have tried this popular pin and how you decorated it!

Lots of love,
According to various reviews it has excellent colour payoff, it's easy to apply and, best of all, is supposed to "outlast" the dreaded chipping for days and days. So naturally, when I saw those pretty little bottles smiling at me at my local Shoppers Drugmart, I couldn't resist.

The colour that I was immediately drawn to is called Wine Stain. It's a very deep red shade, which actually reminds me a lot of the infamous Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI.

So... what do I think?

I am very impressed with the application. It was very smooth to apply and not streaky at all (which I hate in a nail polish). I am also very pleased with the colour payoff. The images below are after two thin coats. Although, I noticed it also produced a very pretty sheer deep red with one coat, if that is the look you wish to achieve.

In terms of its staying power... this is yet to be determined. I have not applied any top coat in order to test its true durability and I will update after a few days.

Have you tried CoverGirl's new nail polish line? If so, let me know what YOU think in the comments below.

Today's 100 Days of Pinterest post is crazy simple but will be a tip you will use time and time again, I promise. If you're anything like me you have candles around your house that have been burned as far as they can and are sitting in the bottom of their perfectly useable glass container. With this tip you can easily remove the remaining wax from the bottom of the glass and recycle it to hold anything from cotton balls, q-tips, jewelry...anything!

My finished product:

My original Pinspiration:

Original source HERE

How it's done

In order to remove the wax, simply stick the candle in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours. When the wax freezes it hardens and shrinks a little bit, causing a gap between the wax and the glass. When it's frozen simply press a kitchen knife into the wax and it will magically crack and break away from the glass. Any remaining residue can be wiped away with damp paper towel, or some olive oil. Also, if you have any difficult removing those annoying sticky labels, try a little nail polish remover.

Hello lovies,

Today is officially the kick-off of 100 Days of Pinterest and to be honest, I'm already questioning whether I've already bit off more than I can chew! Crafting is a LOT of work, fun albeit, but time consuming (although I'm sure we couldn't even count the hours we've spend mindlessly "pinning" away).

Moving on, I'm excited to share my Pin of the day: Pained glass wear. Below is a picture of my "Pinspiration". I believe it's a pretty popular pin, so I'm sure many of you are familiar with it. I thought these were so cute, so I thought I'd give it a go, adding a little bit of a twist and a little Valentine's flare.

How I did it:

1) Start off by choosing your paint and colours. I went with different shades of red/pink for Valentine's day by simply starting with red and adding increasing amounts of white, or black to go deeper. I used acrylic paint (I got mine from the dollar store for only $1!).

2) Practice makes perfect! Before you start going balls to the wall with your glasses, take a few minutes to practice your pattern or drawing. I wanted to go with simple dots made with a small wooden dowel, so I practiced a few times on a clean paper plate.

3) Start painting away! Let your creativity flow and have some fun with it. If you make a mistake, it's helpful to have a damp paper towel to quickly wipe off anything. The one suggestion I would make is that if your design has multiple layers, I would suggest letting your first coat dry before painting over it.

4) Heat it up, baby! After your happy with your design and the paint is 100 per cent dry, place your glasses on a foil-lined sheet. Place the glasses into a COLD oven and while they are inside turn the oven onto 350 Degrees. Set your timer for 20 minutes then shut off the oven, keeping the glasses inside for another 10-15 minutes while the oven cools down. After your glasses have cooled completely, give them a gentle hand wash.

5) Pour yourself a glass of vino (or two) and admire what an artist you are! These glasses are dead simple to make and would also make a lovely and personal gift.

If you are anything like me you're obsessed with Pinterest. I could literally spend two hours straight pinning pictures of adorable cupcakes I'll never make, hair styles I'll never try and crafts I'll never create.

Well my friends, this is the day I declare the days of pinning and hoping are gone and the days of pinning and DOING have arrived. That's right, instead of collecting a bunch of pictures that are pretty to look at, I'm actually going to give some of Pinterest's most popular pins a go. From recipes, to crafty creations, DIYs and tips, the possibilities are endless. Now, whether or not my attempts will be a success... well that's another story.

Tomorrow will be the first day of my series "100 days of Pinterest". I hope you'll swing by and see what my very first attempt will be. Martha Stewart, step aside...

With the holidays in full swing and everyone getting into the Christmas spirit, one of my favourite things to do is paint my nails a bright and festive colour. Today I decided to go with Russian Roulette from Essie. Essie's website describes it as "a classic bright red cream with subtle orange
undertones." To me it is the perfect match to Santa's hat and Rudolf's nose. :)
I have been using the oil cleansing method (or OCM as many online devotees so lovingly refer to it) for about three weeks. It's hard to tell yet if I love it, but I have promised to give it time to see its full potential.

Our skin, whether we like it or not, is an oil factory. It naturally produces oil (good oil!) that helps to protect and naturally moisturize our face. Unfortunately for some of us, our skin can produce too much oil, mix with bacteria, get clogged in the pore and produce black heads, white heads and acne.

So your skin is oily- strip away all of the oil and you can clear your acne, right? WRONG! So many of us, especially with problematic skin, immediately turn to cleansers that contain super-drying ingredients such as alcohol, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and so on. Then, after washing and stripping our skin of all of the dirt and oil, our skin is left feeling dry and irritated, so what do we do? We attempt to re-add the moisture back to our skin with a myriad of moisturizers and lotions. Our skin is thinking, "What the heck?. I'm so confused!" And to make up for lost moisture, your skin produces MORE oil, which is exactly what you were trying to combat from the start. So you wash your face more and it gets drier and... I think you get the picture. It's a vicious skin cycle. One of which many of us, myself included, has found ourselves in at one point or another.

Insert the Oil cleansing method.

For many, especially with trouble skin, the thought of putting oil on the skin sounds like a nightmare- the worst possible idea. But in fact, the science behind it makes sense. Its the idea that like attracts like; as you cleanse your skin with the oil, it attracts the oil and impurities in your skin and as you rinse the oil away, with it goes excess oil without stripping your skin. Over time, using the OCM, so the theory goes, your skin will eliminate clogs and impurities and find its natural balance

Will any oil do?

There are many choices of oils when it comes to the OCM and your choice will often have to do with the type of skin you have. Crunchy Betty has an amazing blog post all about the oil cleansing method and breaks down the different types of oils that are great for various skin types. Almost all uses use a base of castor oil mixed with another (carrier) oil. Do NOT attempt to use castor oil by itself. It's very thick and gloopey and if you use too much of it you can dry out your skin.

What I do:

Every morning and evening I wash my face with a blend of castor oil and jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is a great choice for people with oily/acne prone skin. It is also said that jojoba oil is the oil that is most similar to our own natural oil.

In my hand I mix about 50% castor oil with 50% jojoba (my favourite is from Desert Essence) and apply it to a dampened face. I massage it in my skin, focusing on areas I'm wearing more makeup, for anywhere from one to three minutes. I then take a washcloth damped with very warm washer and gently rub the oil (along with all of my makeup) off my skin. I then rinse with more hot water and rub again with the wash cloth until all of the oil and makeup are off my skin. It is very important that all of the oil is off of your skin, as any residue may cause breakouts. Sometimes if I have a little bit of extra time I will steam my bare face with boiling water before I cleanse to help open up the pores even more. And viola- that's it. A clean, fresh face with no chemicles!

If you feel like your skin is either overly oily, or overly dry, after using the OCM, try playing with the percentage of castor oil to carrier oil. If you find your skin to dry, up the amount of carrier oil, and vice-versa for oily.

After I'm finished cleaning at night, sometimes I like to apply a simple mask of just honey. Honey has natural anti-bacterial properties and is also a natural moisturizer.

The verdict... still yet to be determined. So far I have definately seen improvements in my skin, less clogged pores and more balance. Although only time will tell if I am a life-long oil cleansing convert.

Have you tried the OCM? What were your results?

XOXO
Long time no chat! I have been absent for just over a week and I feel horrible. I feel like I get into blogging cycles- I either blog tones and tones in a short period of time, or I completely fall off the blogwagon for a while until I feel like something's missing.
I'm not going to moan and groan about a million excuses, but I was working a lot last week (for the last month for that matter). But, yesterday, Tuesday, was my last shift at work for a while. I told my manager that I was going to take all of September off so I can get a feel of my new school workload and schedule. I'm also going to be commuting 5 days a week to my school (about an hour each way) so I need to see when I am finding myself free to squeeze in some extra shifts at work. I don't start school until Sept 6th so I've decided that the time between now and the start of school will be my summer "me time". This Friday I am heading up north to go to my university roommates house, which is beautiful and right on the water, with all my other uni girls. I am so excited for tanning and sipping on cocktails all weekend!

I have some plans for some upcoming posts that I'm excited to start writing! Tell me, what is everyones' end of summer plans?Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04586000991483113826noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4607894861760465446.post-68902988268377646642011-08-16T13:27:00.000-04:002011-08-16T13:27:33.205-04:00Mac Studio Fix Powder review

I wanted to get a replacement of one of my most purchased Mac products- the Mac Studio Fix Powder. This is my 3rd or 4th repurchase of this product- a definite holy grail item. It is so versatile. Sometime I use it to set my makeup, other times on lazy days I use it as my foundation. I have used Macs mineralized skin finish natural before I switched to this, and I much prefer this mainly for the fact that it has very good coverage for a powder. It is also great to carry in my purse for on-the-go touchups or oily spots. I also love the fact that it has the bottom compartment with a sponge for, again, on-the-go.
Previous times purchasing this product the girl matched my colour to an N5, which seemed to match me great. But this time I was matched to an NC40! When she said let me try NC40 I was like, "ummm I think that's going to be way to dark!" Although, surprisingly it fits! Keep in mind though I am nowhere near an NC40 in their foundation, so it's always best to go in and get matched in a store or at a counter rather than risking a shade disaster by purchasing online.
Have any of you girls tried Studio Fix Powder? Would you give it Holy Grail status? Let me know in the comments!

For the last couple of months I have had my eyes peeled for the perfect school bag that I could carry my laptop, folders and other necessities, and look professional AND cute. A lot to ask of a bag but I think I've found her! On Friday my Mom and I went shopping and we just happened to walk into Danier Leather, a store I had never really been in before nor had the desire to. Although when I saw this bag I knew it was what I had been looking for, and it was on sale...double score!

It has its own padded compartment for my laptop with lots of extra room for my other things. It was a little bit more than I had initially wanted to spend, but my Mom made a good point that I should buy something of good quality that will last me and stand the test of everyday use. I'm loving it!

What are you girls planning on using as your school/work bag this fall?

P.S. Sorry for the less that perfect pictures. The last one is from their website. If anyone has any tips on taking good quality pictures I would LOVE to here them!
